'cause really, life is what you make it

Sunday, September 28, 2014 ... the day for my youngest is finally here. He has been waiting for this day for a looooong time, years in fact. He had to wait until he turned 18 and that day was March 28th, exactly 6 months ago.  Now we are at Carolina Skydiving in Jonesville, NC, waiting for HIS opportunity to jump out of a perfectly good airplane! :o)  Jacob was 7 years old when his dad jumped for the first time and he was 10 years old when he watched his oldest brother do his first skydive.  He has always said, "When I turn 18, I want to skydive." Well, that dream is about to come true. Although we've had to reschedule twice now due to inclement weather, the excitement is still just as high as it was all those years ago. If the weather had not cooperated today and the jump had been cancelled, I'm not sure any of us would have survived the fallout of disappointment! It's about to get real right here! Jacob is seriously about to cross something off of his

Seat #7 Had My Name On It

Believe it or not, actual mail still is delivered to our mailboxes. It typically isn't anything exciting; it's more bills and ads and coupons of late, but I still look forward to going to my mailbox in hopes of "something more." Several weeks ago I received the "dreaded jury summons."  Who of you can't tell me that when you see that letter you don't let out a loud groan or a heavy sigh? Yep, I do too. It seems like I get these things all the time. I'm a regular, meaning "they" don't miss one opportunity to send me my summons. It doesn't matter where I live; they find me! This piece of mail is not what I'm meaning when I say I look forward to "something more." I have received many jury summons since turning 18 and I have gotten out of quite a few of them.  I was in school, or I had babies who nursed and I couldn't leave them for a lengthy period of time, my job, etc... I was fortunate in that the "judge&q

Country Music is What I Love

A definite favorite: Blake Shelton! Bring it!!  Some posts just have to be about FUN... this is one of them. I love music. I love country music. I wasn't a fan of country music until the early 90's and then I just fell in love with it... hard. Maybe it's the hot male country singers that draw you in to their web like moths are drawn to a flame. Maybe it's the gorgeous female singers who sing like angels or who rock it like Rock Stars. Maybe it's the fact that you can dance your a$$ off to country music and I do love to dance! There are also some very good slow dancing songs in country music--really good ones. Whatever got me back in the 90's, still has me today, and even more so. Country music has changed drastically since the "way back days" and truthfully, that's probably one of the biggest reasons I like it so much. The old country music lovers would totally disagree with that statement, but the new country music lovers are loving the c

Sanctuary

There are words and then there are great words. I am a writer. I love to write. I love to read writings of others. Words are a big part of who I am, what I do, how I think and imagine and dream. I was talking to someone recently and the word "sanctuary" came up in conversation. We were actually discussing relationships. Since being separated and living on my own, I have had a lot of time to think about what went wrong in our marriage. What did I do or not do that brought me to this current place? What did he do or not do? How could we have changed things and set our marriage on a different course? What was missing for all those years? I have my own thoughts on all of that and most of it makes me really sad and it takes me to a place I don't like to go. So instead of focusing on the "really sad," I decided I wanted to concentrate on the "what's ahead?" There is a "what's ahead" even if I have no idea what it is or will be. There will b
