Fripp in Pictures

HI...
Just as a follow up after the "accident" post, I wanted to share our Fripp beach pictures because we really really did have a wonderful week. It was very relaxing for me despite the fact that I lost a lot of skin and I thoroughly enjoyed the company of the two boys. They did their own thing most of the time which allowed me to have "space and time" of my own.  The two of them were extremely helpful when carrying our gear to the beach and back. They were great helpers when it came time to clean up the house before leaving. They did everything I asked them to do. If you are a parent of 18 year olds, then you know this is a gift!! :)  It was a good week.

Deer are everywhere on the island! They come right up to you many times. Jacob loves feeding them!

 I have seen a lot of beautiful bodies of water.... some crystal clear, others amazing shades of blue and green... but it's the Great and Mighty Atlantic that has my heart. It's color may not be turquoise or emerald, but the dark blues and greens draw me in and the water wraps itself around me like a soft blanket. It comforts me. It soothes me when I am full of worry or anxiousness. It calms me when I am running ragged. The Atlantic is home to me. This is my ocean. This is where I find peace and serenity. This is where I come for healing of mind, body and soul. It speaks to me and when I am there by the water's edge, I fall in love all over again. It never gets old, this love affair with the ocean.

             These horse shoe crabs wash ashore all the time. BIG ones!!

"O, God, Thy sea is so great and my boat is so small."  This artwork was done by a sweet young lady that graduated with my son 2 years ago. She is extremely talented.   I saw this quote while watching the movie, " Thirteen Days ."  It was written on a plaque that sat on President Kennedy's desk in the Oval office. (the plaque really sat on his desk!) I actually googled it b/c I wanted to know who the author was that wrote these words. ( here )  As it turns out, the quote has an "anonymous" author. Another Would Have Been Anniversary

 Today is August 3, 2023... for whatever reason this date, August 3, is hard for me. Why? Today would have been our 39th wedding anniversary if there had been no divorce. Someone I know posted something on Facebook several weeks ago on her "would have been" anniversary and I loved what she said. It struck a chord with me and I thought a long time about what she said, and I realized, "You know what? She's right." So I am going to share what she said here changing the date of course and a few other things too. It helped me and maybe it will help someone else who finds anniversary dates sometimes difficult.  "This post may seem odd, but I want to acknowledge a day that meant a great deal to me for a long time." How Did You?

 I was asked a very big question yesterday that I have not really thought about in a very long time. A dear friend asked me, "How in the world did you ever get accustomed to being alone?"  At the moment she asked, I was getting my hair done and couldn't respond. Truthfully, the question knocked me back a couple of steps. I had not traveled down this road in a very long time. I had a two-hour drive back home, so I pondered this. How could I answer her question and at the same time give her hope? This friend is going through a separation and eventual divorce. She too has been with her husband for over 30 years.  How do I answer her question with honesty, yet give encouragement for brighter days?  In my mind I thought I am NOT accustomed to being alone, it's just my present state of life right now.
